Community-Supported Fisheries in the Boston Globe, WBAI, local fairs

CDI Cooperative Development Specialist Lynda Brushett is teaming up with the Northwest Atlantic Marine Alliance to work with a number of Community-Supported Fishery (CSF) projects underway in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Maine. Several of these were detailed in a pair of Boston Globe articles by G. Jeffrey MacDonald on January 24, 2010:
"Couple lure shareholders by charting another course", about Eastman’s Fresh Catch community-supported fishery, in which consumers pay a bit more ($8/pound) for filleted fish, and
"Fishing for sustainability: Shrimpers team up to pre-sell shares of winter catch directly to consumers", about a shrimp CSF launched by the Yankee Fisherman’s Cooperative and a fish CSF, Cape Ann Fresh Catch, run by the Gloucester Fishermen’s Wives Association.

Another shrimp CSF, this one launched by Penobscot East Resource Center in Maine, was featured in a WBAI story by Meghan Hayward on February 6, 2010: "Local Co-op Helping Keep Alive the Fishing Community".

If you're in Maine and interested in community supported food, attend a CSA/CSF Fair on Sunday, February 28, from 1-4 p.m. in one of 12 locations, where you can become acquainted with local seasonal foods, buy a share in a farm's weekly harvest, and discover how you can grow a relationship with a Maine farm.
